Rupturewort's attractive tiny leaves emerge light green in spring, turning dark green in colour with hints of chartreuse. As an added bonus, the foliage turns a gorgeous coppery-bronze in the fall. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are ornamentally significant. The brick red stems can be quite attractive.
Rupturewort will grow to be only 2 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 6 inches. When grown in masses or used as a bedding plant, individual plants should be spaced approximately 6 inches apart. Its foliage tends to remain low and dense right to the ground. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 10 years.
This plant does best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out.  It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. This species is native to parts of North America. It can be propagated by division.
